In November 2019, The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) announced the results of Call for Bids for Exploration Licences, South Eastern Newfoundland Region and Jeanne d’Arc Region. There were 3 successful bids in total, covering 427, 975 hectares (3,280 sq. km) out of an offered area of 2,735,350 hectares (27,350 sq. km.) The successful bidders were ExxonMobil, and a group consisting of Husky and Suncor. The total successful bid amount for the 3 parcels was C$38,608,444.
In January 2020, C-NLOPB issued a Call for Nominations (Areas of Interest) NL20-CFN01 – Eastern Newfoundland. This Call for Nominations will assist the C-NLOPB in selecting a sector for introduction into the scheduled land tenure system. The approximate timing for subsequent announcements is as follows:

- Opens August 2021
- Closes November 2021
- Call for Bids (pending Board approval and ratification by the federal and provincial governments)
- Opens March/April 2022
- Closes November 2022
